How “Las Cazuelas” helped Lotus learn a life lesson…

June 11, 2014

When Lotus, along with her mother, Jennifer, came to see me at my gallery (Lavender Moon Gallery) I found out how one of my short stories had been pivotal in helping Lotus learn a life lesson.  It was a most pleasant ending to my day manning the gallery.  Her mom wanted me to know that she had read Lotus the second story in my book, “Pink Elephants and Chocolate Éclairs: Memoir of a Border Town Chica (girl)” called “Las Cazuelas”.  Lotus said that she understands now what teasing is about and wasn’t going to let her feelings get hurt.  I was impressed by Lotus having understood the meaning of the story at such a young age.  She and her mom went back across the street to their own shop called “Yoganics Hawaii “.  I started to think about it and decided that I really wanted to feature Lotus, her mom Jennifer, and their great family business in sleepy Kainaliu town.  They carry all natural, eco-friendly products in bath, body and yoga wear and provide yoga classes to the local community.  It is a wonderful service they offer.  I have purchased many a birthday and Christmas present from Yoganics Hawaii and love the leather sandals I bought myself for Christmas.  I wear them primarily in my house as my floors are all hard surfaces such as wood floors or tile so my feet never get tired and I feel oh so grounded when I paint or write.  So I marched myself right over and asked Lotus if I could share her reaction to my story and a photo of her on my blog and Facebook page.  She beamed and was delighted.
