Music = Power!

Music has the power to open the doors of your imagination, the doors of your heart, the doors of your untapped creativity!  Music speaks to anyone who wants to listen.  Music has no bias, it speaks to everyone equally.  That’s why it can be so powerful.  Its vibrations alone have inherent energy, energy to do good (or not).  But…

The best of music, I believe, releases positive vibrations, never meant to deflate or destruct, but rather to uplift, build up and transform.

Music done with an intention to do no harm and to bring joy and maybe even a little bit of good-humored laughter and smiles is a soothing balm in this chaotic world we all live in.

We were introduced to Allie Burbrink and Katie Burk, singers, musicians, and songwriters from the incredibly talented female Bluegrass group known as “The Whipstitch Sallies“. These two “Sallies” were in Hawaii on a short tour and we happened to be given an invitation to come over to our dear friends’ house for breakfast and to hear them sing.  My husband and I NEVER pass on an opportunity to hear music performed on a smaller, more personal and intimate setting.  We jumped at the offer to join the Lyons for the “Bluegrass Breakfast Brunch”.

So on a cool and breezy Sunday morning, we went over to their house, where the warm spirit of aloha is alive and thriving.

We talked non-stop about art, music, performance, food, travel, love and adventures…ate…drank Kona coffee…and talked some more until the morning became early afternoon.  The girls slipped effortlessly into their impromptu Bluegrass Concert and treated us to several songs accompanied by their fiddle, guitar and harmonica.  Absolutely charming and rousing, we all were hootin’ and hollerin’ with enthusiasm and joy!  Check out a few of their videos on Youtube and on their website.

We made plans to see them again on their next Hawaiian visit.  We returned home refreshed and reinvigorated.

And for me personally, music ALWAYS has been and ALWAYS will continue to be a great source of inspiration to me as a painter, writer, and human-being.  As soon as I got home I went straight into my studio and began work on a new large abstract painting.  Ah, love was definitely in the air — or was it music?

Be inspired – listen to beautiful music and let your heart soar…  I share with you some of the good fun!  Be sure to click on the first two links below; they’re short video teasers that will leave you shouting for more.
