“Flowers for Tam to make her smile”

Words Are So Important.

It is said that a rose by another name would smell as sweet.  Sometimes words make no difference such as in the case of a fragrant rose.  It will likely thrill you no matter the name. However, sometimes words are all we have to MAKE ourselves understood or not.

Just the other day a funny word problem came up and I had to write about it.  I had just come back from my premier gallery exhibition and artist reception called “Homecoming” and book signing event at Esperson Gallery at GreenStreet in downtown Houston.  Upon my return to Hawaii from my introduction into the Houston art world, a lengthy press release went out to some major media sites.

A few days later, I read a press release in our local newspaper that said I had just returned from Houston where I had opened a gallery.  WOW was I ever surprised to read that.  I wasn’t aware that I had opened my very own gallery in Houston.  Of course the emails starting rolling in with congratulations on my success and new Houston location.  Mind you, my husband and I already have our own gallery in Hawaii called Lavender Moon Gallery.  We’re begun our fifteenth year…Yeah!

The point in my blog post:  words.  Since I’m also a writer, words play a major role in my life.  I was just as surprised as everyone else to read that I had opened a new gallery.  The story went from…I attended an opening at a Houston gallery to… I had opened a gallery in Houston.  So simple, yes?  Just the order of words…opening gallery…gallery opening.

Words can play tricks on us if we’re not careful.  The paper promptly made the correction a few days later but not until the pot had been well stirred up!
